Foundations of a log house

Pamatai

A log house is not heavy compared to a multi-storey brick house, which is why cast polar foundations are usually cast. Tape or other types of foundations are also suitable. A log home, unlike other types of home, does not have a major problem if the foundation is slightly tilted. The walls themselves sit 10 cm and more, so the extra centimeter of the foundation will not have much impact on the house. Pile foundations are less complicated compared to strip foundations and cheaper.

The following nuances should be considered before you start planning the foundation:

  • Land relief. If the house is in the pit compared to the rest of the site, the foundation should be raised slightly higher. The minimum foundation level above the ground is 30 cm. It is also important whether the plot is flat or inclined.

  • The earth's soil influences how deep the piles need to be drilled. In gravel, sand or black earth the frost limit is 1.2 m. In the clay, 2 m and deeper piles are drilled.

  • The width of the foundation also depends on the thickness of the logs. Thicker foundations than log thickness are not required. As a standard we make a 20 cm thick grill.

  • The foundations should be several centimeters smaller than the outer wall. In this case, the rainwater runs off the wall on the ground and I do not accumulate between the

foundation and the first log. If the foundation is heated and the final version fails to make the logs slip from under the foundation, then a tin or board is placed to help water run off to the ground.

It is important that the foundation is level horizontally, as over time the lower crown gets the shape of the foundation and the resulting gaps are distributed throughout the wall.

JSC "Pušinis namas" has been using Haus firms block foundation technology for several years. The core of this technology is the use of grid blocks instead
of formwork. The main advantage is that we avoid swelling of the formwork. We can better compact concrete in block cavities. Foundations are poured much faster and more accurately than traditional methods. Better work is done almost no construction waste.
